Okatie (pronounced “OH-kuh-tee”) is an unincorporated section of Beaufort and Jasper and home to the BJ Academy for Career Excellence, along with the well regarded Okatie Elementary School and the new John Paul II Catholic High School.  SC-170 is the major route through the community.

Conservation of water quality and natural habitats has driven low-density residential development, with sections being annexed by Bluffton, Hardeeville and Port Royal.  Callawassie IslandSpring Island, Heyward Point, and Chechessee Creek are all accessed via Callawassie Drive. Chechessee Creek Club has a nationally acclaimed golf course.

Oldfield and River Bend are directly off of SC-170.  Several smaller housing developments and apartment complexes, along with supporting commercial and medical establishments continue to appear.  Eagles Point is a smaller development with a golf course.
