The Town of Port Royal is undergoing a renaissance around the theme of small town New Urbanism and the development of the old port.  To the west along lies Parris Island Marine Corpse base.  Beyond that along the Savannah Highway is Shell Point with several new developments including Azalea Square town homes, Shell Point Farm, and the communities of Wrights Point, Willow Point, and Liberty Point.

On the west side, Port Royal intermingles with Burton.  The Parris Island Gateway leads to Picket Fences, Pinckney Retreat, Overlook at Battery Creek and Battery Shores.  Shadow Moss is a large development just west on SC-170.

North and east of town along Ribaut Road are several condos and apartment complexes, the Naval Hospital, and Port Royal Landing.  Continue north to the Mossy Oaks and Beaufort, or east to the McTeer Bridge, Ladys Island, and the Sea Islands.

Port Royal played a significant role in the movie Forrest Gump.  Bubba’s shrimp dock is home to the Fish Camp restaurant, and the McTeer bridge was used to cross the Mississippi River 😉
